According to Officials from the GRU (Russian Military Intelligence), at least 2 squads of Spetsnaz Combat Divers came into contact with USASOC Forces and were killed during a hectic situation in the Chernarus Exclusion Zone.

Supposedly, the Spetsnaz Operatives were in the area conducting reconnaissance and sabotage against Onyx and ChDKZ forces, nearing close to the Russian sector, when they were engaged.

Head of the Russian GRU, Admiral Igor Kostyukov made a statement yesterday evening:

“On behalf of the GRU and the Ministry of Defense, I require an explanation of why United States soldiers have killed 16 fine men of the Spetsnaz GRU.”

“If a suitable answer is not given, there will be consequences regarding the Omega-6 Treaty.” – Admiral Igor Kostyukov asserted.

This whole controversy is taking place during a previous call for mobilization in the Chernarus area, and reinforcements from NATO and Russia have arrived at the fronts, with tensions at an all-time high.

In response to the accusations, Lieutenant General Jonathan P. Braga, Commander of US Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) has attempted to explain the exchange of fire.

“The provocation of conflict with Russian Forces was and is not the goal of US Forces within the CEZ. The situation, which the Army Rangers found themselves in, was a chaotic and dynamic one, according to all accounts we have compiled.” – the Lieutenant General stated.

Elements from Charlie Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion were to conduct an assault on an airfield occupied by ChDKZ Forces (formally a loose group of bandits and raiders who have joined into a cohesive force) and Onyx Operatives (who appear to be allied with the ChDKZ). This assault was in response to an earlier mission to rescue a Force Recon Team who became surrounded in north-east Chernarus.

Army Rangers, supported by an MH-60L DAP, engaged the airfield, systematically neutralizing enemy forces in the AO (Area of Operations) until they were to approach their final objective: a radar station to the north of the airfield, suspected to be occupied by ChDKZ. However, aerial reconnaissance provided by the Blackhawk on station reported that the station’s personnel were killed in action and that Russian forces were patrolling the area.
Due to the precarious situation, the Rangers approached with caution, ready for a potential ambush, but attempted to maintain a non-hostile posture.

Unfortunately, when the Spetsnaz patrol spotted US Forces they assumed them hostile (due to the large volume of fire on the airfield) and an exchange of fire occurred. The men of 1st Platoon then cleared the compound, with none of the Spetsnaz left alive. This was an unfavorable outcome of events and likely caused by a lack of communication between members of the Omega-6 Treaty.

This leaves a lot of questions and fears up in the air, regarding the stability of the zone, and a potentially larger conflict between NATO and Russia. Both Russia and NATO assure their main concern is maintaining the quarantine of the Omega-6 Virus but trust between the two is becoming strained.
